"Kitty Kitty"

Sometimes I stop by a building supply store in Chinatown to get things for work (e.g. goo gone... really useful product, by the way). A really cute cat lives there and spends most of its time sleeping on a box on the floor in one of the aisles. The store is so crowded with random things that I almost didn't even see him; he blended right in! When I asked one of the men working in the store what the cat's name was, he shrugged and said "Kitty Kitty?"

Once and a while when I walk by the store Kitty Kitty is sitting in the window. God only knows how he even gets to the window because there is so much stuff in the way!

Here is Kitty Kitty waking up from a nap on his favorite box:

Walker

Walker is a really friendly cat who I met in the winter of last year. I saw him around a lot on the block between my apartment and the subway. When we first met he was really shy, but he warmed up quickly and walked with me all the way down the block to the subway stairs. He was smart enough not to get on the train with me!

Here he is, sniffing something interesting in someone's Queens-sized "yard."

City Kitties: A Revival

After 18 months, City Kitties is back! I suspended posting mostly because Verizon charged me too much money (yes, 20 cents is too much for me. I'm a graduate student... at CUNY no less, ok!?!) to email myself the pictures of kitties that I was taking with my prehistoric cell phone, but I have since gotten Metro PCS (unlimited texting!) so I can take and post as many kitty pics as I want.

City Kitties is all about the kitties I happen by while going about my business in my city, New York. Some of them are strays, others live in stores, and some are friends' or other people's pets. I didn't have any particular goal when I began the blog in 2008; I just noticed that I had a lot of pictures of random cats I had seen on my cell phone and an acquaintance suggested I make a blog. However, since then I think my blog's mission is to promote adoption of pets from animal shelters. I adopted both of my cats, Scribble and Doodle, from the New York City shelter in East Harlem. I understand that some people are against kill shelters, but I like the idea of really saving an animal. I love my cats so much; they are just as great, if not better, than any cat I could have found in a pet store.

Blog posts used to be written in the voice of the cat, but I found it to be difficult to create a new personality each time. It was also a little too dorky (though I will admit, a blog about stray cats is definitely weird) so posts from now on will just me written from my own standpoint.

I'm definitely looking forward to meeting more cats around the city. On the rare occasions that I get to travel elsewhere, I will include kitties from other cities!
