Oscar (II)

While this may look like I just took a picture of a whole bunch of trash, there is, indeed, a cat in this picture.  I named it Oscar (II) because it was hanging out with the trash like Oscar the Grouch, and I had to add the II to distinguish it from Julia's old cat Oscar.  I saw Oscar (II) tonight when I was about to go into my building.  I also saw a city kitty last night, but didn't get a picture of it.  It's been so cold that I want to collect all the kitties and let them warm up in my 90-degree apartment... :-C

City Kitties Travels: Catbus

Heidi was going through my Asia vacation pictures last night and commented on the Catbus I saw at a Totoro store in Hong Kong.  I saw it early in my trip, before I knew how many cats I would see.  So by the time I got home I didn't even think to post it since I had so many other real kitties.

City Kitties Travels: Hong Kong Cat Café

The number one thing I wanted to do in Asia was to visit a cat café.  In Hong Kong there is just one, called Cat Store/Ah Meow, in Causeway Bay.  You might remember that Jimmy went there a couple of months ago.

The cat café is located on the third floor of what seems like a mixed-use building, and you have to buzz in.  Here is the sign leading the way:

Cow is the first cat we met!  I super love that Asia has lots of Scottish Folds :-D

The menu:

The café:

Jimmy's hot chocolate and my membership card.  They only serve members there (all you have to do is fill out a form).  I think that they get around health codes that would probably otherwise prohibit the serving of food in an establishment that has ten cats by being a club, not a restaurant.

This guide tells you the cats' names.  The waitress told me it is not quite up to date, since one of the cats died and they got a new orange kitten recently.

This cat made himself at home on our table.  Most normal people would be grossed out by a cat sitting on their table, but the patrons of the cat café encourage it.

Getting treats:

What a mighty fashionable cone!

But I think the flower cat is a little jealous of all the treats the five other cats are getting.

I visited the cat café on the second full day I was in Hong Kong (yes, I controlled myself and waited a day to go), but toward the end of the trip I needed another fix so we visited again on our last full day there.

This time I ordered sweetened condensed milk toast, a Hong Kong dessert:

The little orange kitten was very active this time.  He kept jumping into the girls' shopping bags at the table next to us.

Cow said hi again, from his usual hangout spot:

I really liked how extra fluffy this cat was:

And last, but certainly not least, here is the cat that was wearing the flower cone on our first visit.  We kept calling it "Flower," but her name I think is actually Bear.

City Kitties Travels: Tabasco

Tabasco was one of my favorite cats from my Asia trip.  He is a super friendly and cuddly Scottish Fold and lives with Janice, Cecil, their two little kids, and Isabelle, another orange Scottish Fold, in Hong Kong.  He had an unusually fat, short tail that I really liked.

City Kitties Travels: Isabelle

Isabelle is a super adorable Scottish Fold who lives with Jimmy's friends Janice and Cecil in Hong Kong.  Unfortunately, they and their two children are all allergic to cats, so Isabelle and her equally cute brother Tabasco have to live isolated in the kitchen :-/

City Kitties Travels: Pattaya Cat

By the time Jimmy and I got to Pattaya, a popular Thai beach town, I was actually tired of taking pictures of cats.  I never thought that would happen, but Thailand really wore me out.  Here is a cute calico we saw there.  Jimmy has pictures of at least two other cats from Pattaya, so maybe I will get them from him and post them later.

City Kitties Travels: Bangkok Cats

So, Thailand has a lot of cats.  So many cats, in fact, that I didn't even take pictures of some of the ones we saw after a while.  Here is a selection of the kitties I saw in Bangkok.

Bangkok is full of motorcycles, mopeds, and other small motor vehicles (tuk tuks!), so it is only appropriate that I start this post with a picture of a cat on a motorcycle:

This cat was fast asleep next to its dog friend.  I thought the tongue was pretty priceless.

Orange cat on Khaosan Road:

Babycats on Khaosan Road:

One of the many cat residents of Wat Pho, home of the famous (and enormous) reclining Buddha.

Kitty near one of the Chao Phraya ferry piers:

Jimmy and I were randomly wandering around Chana Songkhram when we saw this pretty drum tower:

And, what a surprise, there were cats hanging out on it:

สวัสดี! (That means "hello" in Thai.  And, yes, I just googled it and copy-and-pasted it here.)

City Kitties Travels: Wat Arun Cats

The first place that we saw cats in Bangkok was at Wat Arun, which was closed by the time we got there.  But you could still walk around the premises and since there were no tourists and the temple was lit up very nicely I think it was actually better that way.  It was also ideal for seeing some of the many, many kitties who live there.  At first I was kind of upset to see so many cats, but then I noticed that the temple's monks feed them.

Here is the kitten that greeted us at the temple.  And yes, that is poop next to it.

Black cat also had only one eye >^. ^<

Tiny kitten, with my goofy foot for scale:

Two cats and a Buddha:

City Kitties Travels: Macau Maus

Jimmy and I spent a night in Macau.  We had just walked through the super touristy ruins of St. Paul's to a much more quiet residential street.  It seemed like the perfect place for a kitty to be, so we were actively looking for city kitties.  Within minutes we heard meowing, so after a bit of looking around we found this cat!

Kitty had a friend under the car parked next to it:

This woman feeds them by sliding food under the cars:

We continued to wander around the old residential streets and found more cats.  There were a bunch in this one place, but I could only get a couple of crappy pictures of one of them.  Can you spot it?

Now, here is an interesting establishment that I saw later in the day after we had gone to the island.  Why would I post it to City Kitties, anyway?
Because it's called Cat Poop Cafe!  Jimmy explained to me why, but I forgot.  Maybe I will ask him and amend the post later.

City Kitties Travels: Bibi

This is Bibi!  Bibi is a little orange kitten who lives at an amazing hot pot/bbq place Jimmy and I ate at in Mong Kok with his friend Edward.  Bibi was one of the cat highlights of my Asia trip, so I have to post a bunch of pictures of him.

Bibi + hot pot = the best.

Bibi playing with Jimmy's sweatshirt string.  He kind of destroyed it...

Bibi napping after playing a whole bunch:

Bibi followed me to the bathroom after I fed him some squid:
