Cuddlebugs

My parents' cats Missy and Diego (a.k.a., Diggy; a.k.a., Robocat) are suuuuper cuddly and cuddled me the whole time I was at their house for the holiday this week.  I decided to put them together, and this is what happened.  And they were still cuddling a few hours later.

Balthus Cat

Jimmy and I were at the Met today and decided to check out the Balthus Cats and Girls exhibit.  I was pretty excited about the exhibit until I walked in--it became immediately apparent that Balthus was a pedophile.  (I cropped out the girl's crotch in this picture.)  I normally would have thoroughly enjoyed an exhibit revolving around a cat theme, but this was just a tad too disturbing.

Another Morningside Kitty

Jimmy and I went up to Columbia last night to see the pretty trees on campus.  On our walk from the train, we passed by Morningside Park, which is home to lots of kitty cats.  This one posed for a really long time so we could get its picture; I think he wondered what the heck we were doing.  I also saw two or three other cats run by in the distance, but they were too far away and it was too dark outside to get their pictures.

Amadeus and Friend

The pet store across from Jimmy's house reopened recently; it's now all fancy and expensive... but the nice thing is they've got three resident cats.  Here are two of them, Amadeus, the black one, and Amadeus' friend whose name escapes Jimmy.  It makes me wonder what happened to Puffy and Puffy's child, though :-C

Shy Cat

I saw this adorable cat on a neighbor's stoop yesterday, but by the time I got my phone out to take its picture it had run away from me down the alley.

Wong Choi

I was walking to the train from work today when I noticed another cat at Chinatown Building Supply.  (This is the same place where Kitty Kitty lives.  I wonder if Kitty Kitty is still there.)  I asked one of the men who works there what the cat's name is and he said "Wong Choi.  Wong Choi cat."  Jimmy told me that this means a cat that brings wealth, like those Japanese cats that wave.

Chuck

This is Chuck.  He lives in Westfield with Natasha, John, and Oreo.

Oreo

I went to visit my friend Natasha at her new apartment in Westfield and met her and John's kitty Oreo!  Oreo is suuuuuper cute, but kind of shy.  She is best friends with their Lab/Pitbull mix, Diesel.

Urban Mantis

Well, to be fair I don't know what kind of bug this is.  Heidi gave me the picture last night, and said she saw it in Brooklyn.  That's a pretty fancy bug for Brooklyn!

Coddled Cats

I was walking down the street near my apartment today when I saw this adorable cat!  It was very friendly and was rubbing all over me.  When I looked up, I saw a woman laying out a TON of food for the cat... and kitty's friends.  I think they are siblings.

Despite the fact that they're homeless, they eat quite well.  The woman left them lots of real meat, along with regular cat food.

Trouble

Katie saw this kitty who lives at the vet that she brings her dogs to in Ireland.  He apparently struts around like the office is his castle and is not bothered by dogs.  Cute!

Grumpy Art

I saw this Grumpy Cat art in a cafe window on Avenue U in Sheepshead Bay yesterday morning!

Happy

I was on my way home this evening on the train when a this woman got on and sat across from me.  It didn't take long for me to discover that she had a tiny black kitten in her shopping bag (you can see kitty in her arms in above picture)!  I, of course, got suuuuper excited, and because I had a couple of adult beverages before getting on the train, I shamelessly got up to pat the kitty.  The woman couldn't speak much English, but she said "happy" when I was patting the kitten, hence the name.  Eventually the woman sitting catty-corner (lolz) to her got off the train, so I moved myself to that seat to pat the kitten some more.  I have no idea what dialect this woman speaks, but I took my chances with one of the few useful Cantonese words I know and said "mau."  She said, "you mau?" so I said "two mau," since I have two cats.  Then she proceeded to offer me the kitten.  I'm glad I hadn't drank enough to take it!

Hong Kong Cat Cafe!!!

Jimmy went to a cat cafe in Hong Kong yesterday and sent me some pictures of adorable Hong Kong babycats.  Although he liked this cat cafe, it was apparently not as awesome as the one in Tokyo where you can feed the kitties treats and they climb all over you.

Truffle

One of my Instagram followers (I think she lives in Ridgewood, which is why she started following me) sent me pictures of an adorable Persian cat today, Truffle!

Happy Birthday, Gypsy!

Today is Gyp Gyp's 9th birthday!  Unfortunately, she is celebrating mostly alone today because her boymom, Jimmy, is in Hong Kong this week :-C  I went to visit her today to clean her litter and keep her company.  We celebrated by playing with her catnip turtle a bit.

Gypsy expressed her displeasure with being left alone on her birthday by taking it out on turtle:

Grumpy Pumpkin

Heidi saw this pumpkin etched with Grumpy Cat's likeness in Park Slope this weekend!

Even More Japanese Cat Cafe!

I neglected to see two additional attachments in one of Jimmy's emails to me documenting his trip to the cat cafe in Tokyo.  Enjoy!

I think I want him to steal that little black cat for me >^..^<

More Japanese Cat Cafe!

Jimmy sent me more pictures of the cat cafe he is at in Tokyo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jimmy made a friend:

Jimmy made lots of friends!

Japanese Cat Cafe

As I write this blog post my boyfriend is in a cat cafe in Tokyo.  He called me through a video chat app on my phone and took me on a tour of the cafe while he fed the cats treats.  He is currently sitting on the floor with a bunch of cats all around and on him.  There are dozens of adorable cats in this place!  I think I'm going to have to go to Japan just to go to a cat cafe!!!

Here are some pictures he sent me, starting with Bibi:

Here is Momiju:

And some more cats:

I'm hoping that he'll send some pictures of the cafe rooms so I can give my readers an idea of just how awesome this place is.

Doodle, One Year Older

Today is Doodle's seventh birthday!  I can't believe I have had Doodle for six years.  I would like to say that Doodle matures as he grows older, but he is just as starving and impatient for breakfast and dinnertime as ever.  Lucky for him, tonight he and Scribble got some delicious tuna fish to celebrate!

Pepper-Ann

Pepper-Ann is Marissa's cuddly cat that I met along with Lucy tonight in Harlem at book club.  Pepper-Ann, who shares a name with the late-90s cartoon character (I didn't get it until Marissa started singing the theme song, then it all came back!), loves to be held and enjoys attacking clothing.

Lucy

I met Lucinda (a.k.a. Lucy) at Marissa's apartment in Harlem tonight when our book club met.  Lucy is suuuuuper cute and round, but she is also very skittish, cautious, and shy.  She used to have a sibling, but it went out a window.  Lucy became lonely after that, so Marissa and her roommate adopted a friend for her, Pepper-Ann.

Happy National Cat Day!

I will celebrate by sharing this great video my friend Eva showed me a couple of weeks ago.  These cats clearly have the upper hand...

Throwback Cat: Tibby

Tibby is another cat from my childhood.  My family adopted Tibby when I was in fourth grade.  We got him because there was a family across the street that kind of hoarded cats; they never got them fixed or vaccinated, so there were always at least a dozen feral cats roaming around.  My parents were terrified of my brother and me getting bitten by a possibly-rabid cat, so they called the shelter to see what was available.  When they described a "big, nasty tomcat" my mom said that was the one we wanted.

Tibby actually was living right down the street from us when we adopted him; a family had been feeding this extra cat on their property, but didn't want to add him to their pet menagerie.  The first time we let Tibby outside he ran away back down to that house, but after we retrieved him he never ran away again.

Tibby was, indeed, big and nasty.  He hated everyone... except me.  Tibby and I really bonded, and I was the only one who was (sometimes) allowed to touch his chest without being bitten (although he never let me rub his belly).  Tibby slept on my bed, taking up most of the space, and would occasionally show my family his white spot on his underside, which was a big deal when it first happened.

The vet estimated that Tibby was eight years old when we first got him.  That means that by the time he died when I was 21 and spending a semester in Spain (very, very bad timing on his part), he was 20 years old.  I think Tibby can be credited with turning me into a genuine crazy cat lady.

I don't have much of a way of telling when these pictures are from, because most of them I labeled "Tibby!" or "Tibby!!!!" on the back of the photo.  This one my mom labeled, however, dating it 1995.  That means I don't have to feel so bad about the Strawberry Shortcake sheets, heart comforter, and creepy doll on my bed.

Not only did I have a big, creepy doll, I also had a pillow person, a pig, and a frog to sleep with.  Tibby looks right at home.

I put flowers on Tibby's rear end.  I was a strange child.

Finally, a slightly more recent picture.  This is Tibby celebrating my high school graduation.  I hope by then I had upgraded my sleeping situation to something less intense.

Throwback Cat: Lucky

I recently acquired a pretty awesome scanner/printer/copier (for free, I might add) and realized that this enables me to post pictures of my old cats that have since passed on to the eternal land of kibble and balled-up aluminum foil.

I've had cats most of my life.  My first cat was Lucky, sitting here with his cartoon counterpart, Garfield.  This picture was probably taken pre-1984.
Lucky was born before I was.  My parents named him Lucky because they found him in a box on the side of the road along with his brothers and sisters when he was a kitten, so he was lucky, I suppose, to find a home.  Lucky died when I was young, although I don't remember exactly when.  Probably sometime around when I was in third grade.  He was old, went outside for the night, and never came home.  I loved Lucky, but my cat-ladiness had not matured to its most advanced state at the time, so he was really more my parents' cat.

Cat Shadow

October has been a very slow month for City Kitties, so when I saw this cat this morning I knew I had to post him, even though he's been posted before and I see him all the time.  I did like how the picture came out with the long morning shadow, though.

Lazybone

I noticed this little lazybone cat when I was walking down 19th Ave. this afternoon.  He was so lazy that he wouldn't even open his eyes when I was trying to get his attention.  Suuuuuper keeeeeeeet!

City Kitties Travels: Dusty

I spotted this adorable cat at Commonwealth Books in Boston this weekend. Dusty definitely looks like a duster!

Update: Dusty is probably Bookstore Cat, submitted by Beth via Heidi earlier this year. It's quite the coincidence that Dusty made two appearances an City Kitties without my knowledge!

Gatoperro

As I was walking over the Brooklyn Bridge last week I happened to notice this random graffiti.  Indeed, the catdog does exist.  It is Doodle!
