Obama

To preface this post, I'd just like to clarify that I did not name this cat. The guy at the corner store on Madison Ave. somewhere between my house and my gym told me that this cat is named Obama and, quite frankly, I'm not sure about naming a cat after Barack Obama.

Now that that is out of the way, I saw this orange kitty today and it was sooooo friendly. The corner store guy told me that the cat is from Afghanistan. I had to clarify, so I asked him if the cat was actually brought here from there. He said yes... I don't know how much I believe him, but I guess it isn't out of the realm of possibility. I told the guy at the store that I also have an orange cat, and he asked me if I ever bring him to Central Park. Doodle would definitely not enjoy a trip to the park.

Also, sorry about the catbutt shot. It was the only one where kitty wasn't blurry.

Rao's Cats

I had a coupon for a 30-pack of free toilet paper from Costco (!!), so I walked over there this afternoon and saw two kitties in a community garden a couple doors down from Rao's.

Welcome Home, Doodle!!!!

As you may know, Doodle got very sick a week and a half ago on his 8th birthday. His urinary tract was blocked, which is fatal if it isn't tended to immediately. He spent some time in a 24-hour hospital on the Upper East Side, then I brought him to Harlem Animal Hospital where he stayed until tonight (next to the keeeeeeetest kitten Speckles). While he was there, he essentially got a sex change... Poor guy lost his balls when I first got him, and now he doesn't even have a penis. Well, none of that matters because he is still here and enjoying life in spite of his cone of shame that he'll be wearing for two weeks.

We celebrated his homecoming and his birthday tonight with some tuna Fancy Feast cat food! Yummy!

Heidi found these awesome pants in Philadelphia! I do own a cat print dress, but I don't know if I could pull this off.

Doodle Update, and Speckles

I went to visit Doodle at the vet tonight. He has to stay for a few more days because on Monday he is getting surgery to widen his urethra. Essentially, he is getting a sex change. His penis will be turned into a vagina.

When I first got there he was looking tired and spacey, but he perked up--especially when we introduced him to his cage neighbor Speckles! Speckles is an 8-week-old babycat who was at the vet because she was terribly constipated. They are like two peas in a pod. She couldn't poop, and Doodle couldn't pee. Now they are both on the road to recovery (I hope).

Doodle, Please Pull Through!

Yesterday was Doodle's 8th birthday. I felt a little guilty because I was out of town for most of the day, but according to Jimmy he was just fine and enjoyed a nice wet-food celebratory meal. He left the house around 7:00, and by the time I got home an hour later Doodle was not at the door to greet me. Instead, I found him hiding behind the couch meowing in pain. It was obvious that something was wrong, so we brought him to the Animal Medical Center where they told me he had a blocked urethra. This is an extremely dangerous condition that turns fatal within 24-48 hours. They unblocked him and emptied his bladder, and he appeared to be doing much better. But all night I noticed he would go in the litter box and couldn't pee. Today he is extremely lethargic and won't eat. He does not look very good and has an appointment to visit another vet at 1:00.

I wish I could be posting a nice happy birthday post for him right now, but I hope he gets better so we can do a belated celebration later on.

Since he looks very sick, I will post a picture of him and Scribble that I took this past summer in our old apartment.
I love you, Doodle!! Please get better.
