Baby Dragon (a.k.a. Claudius)

My good friend Eva had a Halloween party last night at her fabulous apartment in Weehawken, and she dressed as the Mother of Dragons from Game of Thrones.  Arguably the most important part of her costume was her dragon baby, Claudius.  He was such a good cat and wore his costume with few complaints for most of the night.  Cuuuuute!

Pretty Blue Cat

I was on my way to Heidi's house yesterday and saw this pretty, blue cat on Fort Hamilton Parkway in Dyker Heights.

Chatty Cat

My friend Heidi sent me this chatty cat that she saw in Dyker Heights the other day.  Meow!  >^..^<

Classic Halloween Black Cat

I saw this cat on my walk to the bus this morning.  It was the perfect lucky Halloween cat, and super friendly!

Siren Cat

I was on my way to the gym this morning when I saw this cat across the street.  I decided its name should be Siren because its lure was so strong that I crossed 19th Avenue, failing to look for a walk signal and oncoming traffic.  My love of cats is becoming a threat to my well-being and life.  And I didn't even get a good picture!

Snack Cat

My new friend Jimmy must have needed a snack to help him meet his deadline tonight, because he sent me this Park Slope candy bar cat (cute!)--he didn't even have enough time to process it through all of the possible instagram options.

Video Store Cat

My friend Will sent me this cat that he saw in a video store in Chelsea.  It has all the answers.

Cat and Kid

I spotted this cat outside a bodega on 8th Ave. in Sunset Park tonight and followed it in to get a picture.  I wasn't the only one interested in the cat, apparently.

Metro Café Vice President

I went to a Szechuan restaurant, Metro Café, in Sunset Park this evening and noticed that its walls were papered with pictures of a black-and-white cat.  I was secretly hoping the cat lives there (although I think that would be a health code violation).  It must be the owner's beloved cat. Very cute :-D

Roof Stroller

I saw a super cute grey cat right outside my building the other day when I was on my way to the gym, but, unfortunately, did not have my phone with me so I never got its picture.  Well, this morning I looked out my window and saw this grey cat strolling across a low roof of the building behind my apartment.  I wonder if it is the same cat.

Opposite Cats

This morning I was walking to the bus when I saw two unrelated cats.  I am calling them opposite cats because of the opposite ways in which they responded to me.

This first, below, just ran away from me.  The best I could get of it was this crappy picture of someone's driveway into which it ran:
Yes, I am aware of the fact that you can't see a cat there.  You will just have to trust me on this one.

The second cat I saw was a corner store--whatever the Russian equivalent of a bodega may be--cat.  This cat was very friendly and wanted to hang out with me until its owner said something to me in Russian and the cat promptly ran inside.

Rain Kits

Heidi called cats "kits," hence the headline of this post.  Anyhow, here are a couple of poor little cats that she sent me that were out in the rain in Brooklyn today.

Sadface!

Adopt Shelter Pets

Here is an article from the New York Times about the inadequacy of our city's shelter system.  There are only three shelters--not nearly enough to accommodate all of the homeless animals in New York.  It is, unfortunately, a kill shelter.  I, personally, wouldn't drop off an animal there, but I adopted Scribble and Doodle from the city shelter in East Harlem.  I love them and if you wanted a pet, you should adopt because you will love your pet, too.  Even if s/he was homeless.

Tiger: Update

I had a long, stressful day on Tuesday and went to the store that sells beer near my apartment (side note: why do so few corner stores in Bensonhurst carry beer??) and saw this cat.  As it turns out, I'd seen her before, but, for whatever reason, thought that she was grey instead of orange (even though her name is Tiger--it was a long day, okay!?!).  Then when I got home, my day became even more craptastic when I found some unpleasant mail in my mailbox, so I completely forgot to post her.  I didn't remember until tonight when I was walking home from the subway and saw not one, but two cats, neither of whom I could get a picture because they ran away and it was too dark.  Well, here is Tiger.  Now you can see her face instead of just her butt.

Breast Cancer Awareness Cat

Heidi and I were kicking around the city today trying to go to Open House NY events and saw this kitty in a breast cancer awareness window display of the C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries store in Greenwich Village.

Maneki-neko

I was in Chinatown tonight with Heidi and walked by a store that had so many lucky cats in the window!  (As a side note, I always assumed that these were Chinese cats, but I learned--for the purpose of this post--that lucky cats, or "Maneki-neko," are actually Japanese.)

The first ones to catch our eyes were these super chubster lucky cats:
Then we saw one that was even more chubster:
And a family:
And finally, a bunch of baby lucky cats:

City Fishies

Now and then I stray from the cat theme here at City Kitties and post non-cats.  I think I've only posted mammals up until now, but I've seen this koi pond a few times in my neighborhood and decided that it is worthy of being featured.  I'm not sure if it is clear enough, but there is a particularly large, black fish just below all the small orange ones.

I wonder where they live in the winter?

Mossie

Heidi saw this cute moss cat from Dig at Atlantic Antic in Brooklyn yesterday.  Thanks, Heidi!
