Honeymooners

One of my best friends, Jenny, got married in September.  After her wedding, she and her husband Dan went on their honeymoon to Sardinia and Corsica where they met lots of adorable cats.  Here they are!
I think this one, above, is my favorite.

Somebody loves shoes, just like Scribble!

Shoe cat, again :-D

This cat was hiding, but when it realized it had been discovered it ran away.

"Wut r yu lookin at?"

Not a bad place for a bath!

Reddit

Reddit is Will's cat.  She used to live with him and Wayne in San Diego, but when Will moved to New York, Reddit followed Wayne to San Francisco.

Reddit likes to be cute and chew on computer wires.  And she is City Kitties' first West Coast cat!

City Kitties Travels: Mass Dash

I am in Massachusetts visiting my family for the holidays.  Today my mom and I went for a walk on the Norwottuck Rail Trail in Amherst and she spotted this cat in a field on our drive back to her house.  I asked her to stop and turn around so I could take its picture for my blog.  She complained, but eventually complied, and I got to see the kitty running back into the woods!

Reverend Burt

Jimmy sent me (yet another) cat up for adoption from the Prospect Park Animal Clinic!  He said Burt looks just like Scribble, but about twice her size.  He must be a very pious cat, otherwise he wouldn't have been ordained.

Motorbike Cat

My good friend Heidi saw this kitty trying to ride a motorcycle in Park Slope last week!

City Kitties Travels: Ben & Jerry's Cat

Heidi and I are in Vermont this weekend!  We stopped by Ben & Jerry's in Waterbury on Friday, where we met this cute orange cat.  He reminds me of my Doodle I left behind in NYC...

Fat Cat Wines

My boyfriend and I were going on a walk through Carroll Gardens the other day when we ran across this wine shop that has arguably the cutest catscot (cat mascot).  Jimmy thinks it looks like Gypsy because the cat is so fat, but I think it looks more like Doodle because the cat is fat and orange(ish).

What do you think?

Fluffy

I know that Fluffy isn't the most creative cat name of all time, but I couldn't think of a better cat for it.  I saw this kitty on Monday (I'm pretty sure) in Chinatown!

Scotty

My good friend Volana and I were shopping for jewelry supplies on 37th Street today when this cat waltzed into City Beads.  I asked the man working what his cat's name was.  "Oh, he's not my cat," he said. "He just thinks he lives here."  Scotty actually lives at the florist next door, but comes into the jewelry supply shop whenever he wants.

Look at him, sitting on the cashier's stool!  Silly cat.

Vet Kittens

Jimmy sent me a picture of these cute babycats who've taken up residence at the Prospect Park Animal Clinic. Maybe this means that Trousers got adopted?

Bath Cat

I saw this cat taking a bath on my block the other day.

Ice Cream Cat

My good friend Heidi saw this cute cat on an ice cream/yogurt sign in Sunset Park. Cuuute!

Water Cats

My friend Andy sent me this AMAZING video of cats and water.  Enjoy!

Trousers

I went to the Prospect Park Animal Clinic in Park Slope yesterday with Jimmy to pick up fluids for his kitty cat Isis and met this little cat, Trousers!  Trousers is super friendly, is fixed, and has all his shots.  He is also available for adoption, so if you're in the market for a cat friend you should go check him out.  >^..^<

Hydrant Hydrater

I just saw this cute little black cat on my way home from the gym.  I was glad to see it is taken care of; I found it eating a big pile of kibble and wet food out of a plastic bowl on the sidewalk.  When it saw that I was taking an interest in what it was doing it very politely showed me where to lap up some fresh, delicious water: out of the leaking fire hydrant.

Gypsy

Jimmy's other cat is Gypsy.  She is also very sweet.  Doesn't she look so dainty in the above picture?  Yes, yes she does.

Well, believe it or not, Gypsy is quite fat.

How fat, you may ask?

This fat!

She reminds me of a hedgehog or bear when she gets up to lumber around the apartment.

Isis

Jimmy has two very cute cats who I met this weekend.  They are sisters, and today is their birthday!  This one is Isis.  She is very petite, cute, and friendly.  The problem, though, is that she was just diagnosed with kidney failure.  She has to have a shot of fluids every day, and has a very difficult time eating solid food.  Poor kitty :'-C

Enzo

I saw this tomcat (he is huuuuge!) both before AND after I went to the gym today.  The first time he darted out of the doctor's office in the ground floor of my building.  I couldn't help but wonder if he lives there--but wouldn't that be a bit unsanitary for a doctor's office?  The second time I saw him, he was playing around in the trash on the sidewalk in front of my building.  His name is Enzo because, just as I was about to get a good picture of him, a man yelled "Enzo" at him, and he ran away from me.  Stupid man, messing up my photo op.

My Apartment Smells Like Tuna Fish

Why?

Because it's Doodle's birthday, of course!

Happy sixth birthday, Doo!

Sandy Survivor

I saw this cat on my block yesterday (I was a bit slow in taking out my phone to get a picture).  I am glad to see cats out and about after the hurricane.  The wind was so strong I was afraid that small, little cats would have blown away!

Baby Dragon (a.k.a. Claudius)

My good friend Eva had a Halloween party last night at her fabulous apartment in Weehawken, and she dressed as the Mother of Dragons from Game of Thrones.  Arguably the most important part of her costume was her dragon baby, Claudius.  He was such a good cat and wore his costume with few complaints for most of the night.  Cuuuuute!

Pretty Blue Cat

I was on my way to Heidi's house yesterday and saw this pretty, blue cat on Fort Hamilton Parkway in Dyker Heights.

Chatty Cat

My friend Heidi sent me this chatty cat that she saw in Dyker Heights the other day.  Meow!  >^..^<

Classic Halloween Black Cat

I saw this cat on my walk to the bus this morning.  It was the perfect lucky Halloween cat, and super friendly!

Siren Cat

I was on my way to the gym this morning when I saw this cat across the street.  I decided its name should be Siren because its lure was so strong that I crossed 19th Avenue, failing to look for a walk signal and oncoming traffic.  My love of cats is becoming a threat to my well-being and life.  And I didn't even get a good picture!

Snack Cat

My new friend Jimmy must have needed a snack to help him meet his deadline tonight, because he sent me this Park Slope candy bar cat (cute!)--he didn't even have enough time to process it through all of the possible instagram options.

Video Store Cat

My friend Will sent me this cat that he saw in a video store in Chelsea.  It has all the answers.

Cat and Kid

I spotted this cat outside a bodega on 8th Ave. in Sunset Park tonight and followed it in to get a picture.  I wasn't the only one interested in the cat, apparently.

Metro Café Vice President

I went to a Szechuan restaurant, Metro CafĂ©, in Sunset Park this evening and noticed that its walls were papered with pictures of a black-and-white cat.  I was secretly hoping the cat lives there (although I think that would be a health code violation).  It must be the owner's beloved cat. Very cute :-D

Roof Stroller

I saw a super cute grey cat right outside my building the other day when I was on my way to the gym, but, unfortunately, did not have my phone with me so I never got its picture.  Well, this morning I looked out my window and saw this grey cat strolling across a low roof of the building behind my apartment.  I wonder if it is the same cat.

Opposite Cats

This morning I was walking to the bus when I saw two unrelated cats.  I am calling them opposite cats because of the opposite ways in which they responded to me.

This first, below, just ran away from me.  The best I could get of it was this crappy picture of someone's driveway into which it ran:
Yes, I am aware of the fact that you can't see a cat there.  You will just have to trust me on this one.

The second cat I saw was a corner store--whatever the Russian equivalent of a bodega may be--cat.  This cat was very friendly and wanted to hang out with me until its owner said something to me in Russian and the cat promptly ran inside.

Rain Kits

Heidi called cats "kits," hence the headline of this post.  Anyhow, here are a couple of poor little cats that she sent me that were out in the rain in Brooklyn today.

Sadface!

Adopt Shelter Pets

Here is an article from the New York Times about the inadequacy of our city's shelter system.  There are only three shelters--not nearly enough to accommodate all of the homeless animals in New York.  It is, unfortunately, a kill shelter.  I, personally, wouldn't drop off an animal there, but I adopted Scribble and Doodle from the city shelter in East Harlem.  I love them and if you wanted a pet, you should adopt because you will love your pet, too.  Even if s/he was homeless.

Tiger: Update

I had a long, stressful day on Tuesday and went to the store that sells beer near my apartment (side note: why do so few corner stores in Bensonhurst carry beer??) and saw this cat.  As it turns out, I'd seen her before, but, for whatever reason, thought that she was grey instead of orange (even though her name is Tiger--it was a long day, okay!?!).  Then when I got home, my day became even more craptastic when I found some unpleasant mail in my mailbox, so I completely forgot to post her.  I didn't remember until tonight when I was walking home from the subway and saw not one, but two cats, neither of whom I could get a picture because they ran away and it was too dark.  Well, here is Tiger.  Now you can see her face instead of just her butt.

Breast Cancer Awareness Cat

Heidi and I were kicking around the city today trying to go to Open House NY events and saw this kitty in a breast cancer awareness window display of the C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries store in Greenwich Village.

Maneki-neko

I was in Chinatown tonight with Heidi and walked by a store that had so many lucky cats in the window!  (As a side note, I always assumed that these were Chinese cats, but I learned--for the purpose of this post--that lucky cats, or "Maneki-neko," are actually Japanese.)

The first ones to catch our eyes were these super chubster lucky cats:
Then we saw one that was even more chubster:
And a family:
And finally, a bunch of baby lucky cats:
